SSC JE Exam: Preparation Strategy

SSC JE exam is one of the most prestigious and renowned exams for engineers. Its job profile and handsome salary are some of the factors which lure Indian engineers. Since the SSC JE exam offers opportunities to both Diploma and Degree holders, you will be facing stiff competition for selection. However, the level of questions asked is lower than that in other exams like GATE and ESE. With proper guidance, reliable sources of study, and rigorous practice, you can crack this exam without much difficulty. Now, without any further delay, I am going to discuss the preparation strategy for the SSC JE exam.

General Preparation Strategy

  • To excel at the SSC JE exam, it is all-important that you should be fully aware of the syllabus and the exam pattern. You can divide these topics difficulty-wise as per your convenience.

  • Create a personalized study plan in an organized manner. Allocate more time to the General Engineering section as it carries 50% weightage in the SSC JE exam. Moreover, try to make a topic-bound study plan rather than a time-bound type. It helps in the effective utilization of your study time.

  • The General Engineering section in Paper-I is mostly composed of theory-based questions. Therefore, you should thoroughly brush up your basics. Try to understand the basic principles and concepts involved in each topic.

  • Try to make your own handwritten notes whenever possible. Certainly, your notes will help you learn concepts in a better way. Besides, these notes can help you in quick revision before the exam. Highlight important points and definitions wherever necessary. You can also write all the important formulae separately.

  • Referring to Previous Years’ Papers is one of the important aspects of the preparation strategy for SSC JE. This will help you to understand the weightage and the difficulty level of different questions from each section. I will suggest you to attempt at least one previous year’s paper before you jump into the preparation. It helps in assessing your current level of knowledge. As a result, you can make the preparation strategy as per your needs.

  • Take Mock Tests at frequent intervals to get an idea about the status of your preparation. It also helps you to know your strengths and weaknesses very well. Once you know your weaknesses, you can work on improving those areas.

Some Specific Preparation Tips

In addition to the above-mentioned preparation strategies, I would like to give you some paper as well as section-specific tips for the SSC JE exam. So stick around with me and take a look at those valuable tips.

  • Current Affairs is like a meal, you should take a daily dose of it. You can follow Oliveboard and Adda247 on various social networking platforms like Instagram and Facebook. I can assure you that you will get plentiful current affairs and information about the latest things happening in India and around the globe.

  • For the General Reasoning section, you need an intense practice of questions. It is something that you cannot memorize or untangle solely by using formulae. Therefore, do solve an ample amount of questions of different types to get hold of this section.

  • Allocate a significant amount of time to each section as per their weightage in your daily study plan. Moreover, do the time-bound practice of questions as this habit will be beneficial in managing your time during the actual exam.

  • When you attempt the Paper-I exam, start with the General Awareness section. Most importantly, answer only those questions about which you are 100% sure. You already know that there will be negative marking for wrong answers in the Paper-I exam. If you don’t know the answer to any question, just move on to the next one. Don’t waste your time overthinking and speculating.

  • In the Paper-II exam, time management is the key to success. Although you have to solve only 5-6 questions, each question has multiple sub-parts that make your task tedious. Therefore, you need to work harder in preparation for the Paper-II exam.

  • Firstly, solve Previous Years’ Questions of the Paper-II exam. Secondly, try to solve the subjective questions from standard textbooks of your engineering discipline.
